Howell combines rural charm with a modern community located with access to the Garden State Parkway, NJ Turnpike, I 195, Routes 9, 18, 33 and 34. Just 10 minutes to the Jersey shore, and 90 minutes to Atlantic City, Howell offers a wide range of housing, from single family detached homes to condo and town home communites.
Monmouth County Park System's Manasquan Reservoir Joseph C. Irwin Recreation Area, is located on Windeler Road in Howell Township. The pristine 770-acre reservoir is the largest body of fresh water in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Look for Eastern bluebirds, Canada warblers, wood ducks, great blue herons and raccoons along a five-mile perimeter hiking and bicycling trail. Or launch your own electric motorboat (no gasoline motors allowed), any paddle craft or sailboat (anything from 8 to 26 feet), or rent any at the visitors center. Boat tours sail each day from 1 to 5 p.m. From a fishing dock or from a boat, try for large and small mouth bass, assorted pan fish, brook and rainbow trout, catfish and hybrid striped bass. Bait and tackle, as well as restrooms and snack machines, are available at the visitors center.
The Howell Township Public Schools consist of ten K to 5 (or PreK to 5) elementary schools and three intermediate schools serving grades 6 thru 8. Students 9-12 attend either Howell High, Freehold Township High, or Colts Neck High (depending on address). Howell is part of the Freehold Regional High School District and students from Howell can apply to participate in one of the Learining Center programs within the Regional District.
